01 Your layaway terms
Layaway holds goods for a customer on a deposit, and the sale completes when they have paid the rest. Set your terms in “POS setup” under “Settings”, in the “Layaway” card.
Choose the “Minimum deposit (%)”, 20 unless you change it, the “Days to pay”, 60, and the “Reminder (days before due)”, 7, when the customer is emailed.
Write the “Layaway policy” plainly: what happens to the deposit if the customer cancels or does not pay. It prints on every layaway receipt; each layaway keeps its own terms.
02 Put a cart on layaway
Ring the items up and attach the customer, then click “Layaway” and “Put this cart on layaway”. Enter the “Deposit”, at least your minimum, and check “Balance due by”.
Under “Paid with”, choose how the deposit is paid: cash, the card reader, your own card machine, a gift card, e-Transfer or other. Then click “Take deposit”.
The goods leave your stock at once, so nobody else can buy them, and the layaway receipt prints the total, what is paid, the balance and the due date.
A layaway needs a connection, and lot- or serial-tracked items cannot go on layaway.
03 Payments and payment links
To take a payment, click “Layaway”, then “Open layaways”, find it by receipt number or customer, and click “Take a payment”. Any tender works, as for a sale.
When the balance reaches zero, the sale is complete and you hand the goods over. Until then the payments are deposits in “Accounting”, not sales.
“Email a payment link” sends the customer a link to pay the whole balance by card. A layaway paid off by link waits for them in “Pickups”.
The link also shows on screen, to read out or text when the email cannot go, and a payment taken at the till replaces any link already sent.
04 Overdue: cancel or forfeit
At the due date you are told under “Notifications” and by email, and the till marks the layaway overdue. Nothing happens to it on its own: you choose.
“Cancel and refund” gives the payments back “The way each was paid”, “All in cash from this drawer” or as “Store credit”.
“Forfeit” keeps the payments, as your layaway policy allows. Only do this when the policy the customer was given says so.
Both put the goods back in stock and need an owner, admin or manager sign-in, with your authenticator code if you use one. A failed card refund waits for “Retry the card refund”.
05 Till returns follow your return policy
Returns at the till now follow each product’s own return policy, the same one your storefront’s returns form uses. Click “Return” and find the sale.
A final-sale item shows “Final sale”, and one past its “Return window (days)” shows “Return window closed on” a date. Both start at zero, and picking one is refused with the reason.
The window counts from the sale, from delivery for a sale you shipped, and from the day a layaway was paid off. Returns with a gift receipt follow the same rule.
A manager can still take it back: enter the “Reason for the override” and click “Override and give back”. It needs an owner, admin or manager sign-in and goes in the audit log.
Next: order routing and local delivery.

Puis cliquez sur « Take deposit ».
« Cancel and refund » rend les paiements « The way each was paid », « All in cash from this drawer » ou en « Store credit ».
Un remboursement échoué attend « Retry the card refund ».
Un gérant peut quand même le reprendre : saisissez « Reason for the override », cliquez sur « Override and give back ».
