Know your customers
Your customer list and its groups, adding and importing customers with their consent, a customer’s page and messages, merging duplicates, the questions your storefront chat could not answer, and care metrics.
Example store: Maple & Brass, a Toronto jewellery shop. Customers, messages and figures are made up.
Transcript
01 Your customer list
“Customers” lists everyone who bought from you or whom you added, on every plan. Search by name, email or phone, or filter by source, such as “Online” or “In-store”.
The cards add up “Paid revenue”, “Avg spend per customer” and “Paid orders” for the customers you are looking at. Only paid orders count.
Under “Customer segments (RFM)”, press “Refresh” to group customers by how recently, how often and how much they buy: “Champions”, “Loyal”, “At Risk” and more. Click a group to filter.
02 Add and import customers
Customers arrive by themselves from checkout and the till. To add one by hand, press “Add customer” and enter a “Full name” or an “Email”, and a “Phone” if you have one.
Tick “This customer agreed to receive marketing email from this store.” only when they did. An address on file is not agreement, and campaigns go only to those who agreed.
To bring a list, press “Import”, then “Download template”. A row whose email is already a customer updates them, and you see how many were new, updated and skipped.
03 A customer’s page
Open a customer for their “Timeline”: orders, reviews, notes, visits to your store and the campaign emails they opened. “Lifetime value” shows what they have spent.
Under “Send a message”, pick “Email”, “Text” or “Push”. Email goes from your store’s own address; a text waits until texting is on for your store. WhatsApp is still rolling out.
If it advertises something, tick “This promotes a sale, product or offer.” It is then sent only if they agreed to marketing, with your unsubscribe link. Every message joins their timeline.
04 Merge duplicates
When one person has two records, press the merge icon on the one to keep, search for the other, then press “Merge → keep”.
Orders, reviews, notes, gift cards and the rest of their history move across, and loyalty points are added together. The kept record keeps its own email and marketing agreement.
A merge cannot be undone, so merge into the record whose email you want to keep.
05 Questions your chat could not answer
When your storefront chat cannot answer a shopper, the question comes to “Shopper chat”, under “Unanswered”, with how many times it was asked. It is on every plan.
Press “Answer”, type it once, and press “Send answer”. It is emailed to every shopper who asked and left an address, and shows in their chat window if they are still there.
Leave “Add to the knowledge base, so the chat answers this itself from now on” ticked. Under “Conversations” you can read a live chat and press “Join”: the chat stays quiet while you are in.
06 Care metrics
In a conversation in Inbox, press “Suggest a resolution”. You get a “Draft reply (review before sending)” and, when it fits, one action such as a refund.
Nothing happens until you press “Approve”, and approving is logged. “Care metrics”, on the Growth plan and up, counts those actions: “Suggested”, “Approved”, “Executed” and “Declined”.
“Resolution rate” is the share carried out, leaving declined ones aside, and “Avg time to resolve” runs from suggestion to done. Next: selling with a team.

Cochez « This customer agreed to receive marketing email from this store.
Pour une publicité, cochez « This promotes a sale, product or offer.
Laissez cochée « Add to the knowledge base, so the chat answers this itself from now on ».
