Blog Posts and the Content Calendar

Write and edit a blog post about a product, publish it on your storefront, and use the content calendar to see what you have posted and plan a post for each product that has none.

Overview

Marketing → Blogs keeps your blog posts. Each post is about one of your products, and a published post appears on your storefront under /blogs. The Content calendar, the calendar button at the top of Blogs, shows the posts you have made and suggests a posting plan for the products that have none.

Blogs are on the Growth plan and above.

Write a post

  1. On Marketing → Blogs, click New post.
  2. Choose the product the post is about.
  3. Leave Draft the content automatically on to have a first draft written for you from the product, or turn it off and write the title and content yourself.
  4. Click Generate post (or Create post when you wrote it yourself). The post is a draft until you publish it.

Click a post in the list to read it, with its web address (/blogs/…) and any SEO details. Publish puts it on your storefront; Unpublish takes it back to drafts.

Edit a post

Click Edit on a post to change its title and its content, then Save changes. A post needs a title. Editing a published post changes it on your storefront straight away, and its web address stays the same when you change the title, so links to it keep working. Cancel leaves the post as it was.

The content calendar

The calendar covers this month and next. On it you see:

  • Published and Draft: posts you already have, on the day each was created.
  • Planned: a suggestion. Every Tuesday and Thursday from tomorrow on, one of your active products that has no post yet is paired with a suggested title, a topic and keywords. The plan comes from your newest 60 active products and stays the same each time you open it.

A day lists every post and plan on it, up to three in the box with +N more for the rest. Click the day to see them all below the calendar, each with its topic and keywords:

  • Edit post, on a published post or a draft, opens it in the editor on Blogs.
  • Draft this post, on a plan, writes that one draft now and opens it in the editor.

A day with nothing on it shows just its date.

Drafting the planned posts

Draft planned posts writes a draft for up to eight of the planned slots at a time, one per product, and tells you how many it made and how many failed. A product that already has a post is not given a second one.

The drafts are made now and dated today, so they all appear on today's date in the calendar. Nothing is published or scheduled for the planned day: read each draft under Blogs, edit it if you like, and publish the ones you want. Click the button again for the next eight.

When automatic writing is not available, for example once your store has used its allowance of written drafts (30 an hour, shared with New post), the draft is a short outline instead.
