Carbon: Estimated Shipping Emissions per Order

Overview

Carbon (Insights → Carbon) estimates the greenhouse-gas emissions of delivering each order and reports them by month and by product. Every figure is an estimate worked out from published averages, not a measurement of your carrier's parcel, and it is labelled as one everywhere it appears.

Who can use it. Carbon is included from the Scale plan up. Anyone who can see reports can read it; owners, admins and accountants can change the settings and record pledges.

How the estimate is worked out

For each shipped order:

1. Weight. The weight recorded on the order's shipment. If there is none, the products' weights (a variant's own weight if it has one). If any product has no weight, your fallback parcel weight is used, and the order is marked with an asterisk.
2. Distance. From the centre of your origin region to the centre of the destination state, province or country. Only the country and region are used — never the street address — and only those two codes are stored with the estimate.
3. Journey. Deliveries within your country use your domestic mode (road by default); deliveries abroad use your international mode (air by default). A road delivery is a truck for the route and a van for the last 30 km; air, sea and rail also finish with 30 km by van. Road and rail routes count as 1.2 times the straight-line distance, sea routes 1.2 times, and flights add 8% as the factor publisher recommends. A delivery inside one region counts at least 50 km.
4. Factors. Emissions per tonne-kilometre for each vehicle, from the UK Government GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting 2026 (Department for Energy Security and Net Zero). The page shows every factor used and the row it came from.
5. Packaging. If you set a packaging material and weight, its production emissions from the same publication are added.

Orders collected in store and point-of-sale sales are not included. An order we cannot place (for example no destination country) is not guessed at: it is counted under Orders not estimated with the reason.

Settings

Set your delivery modes, fallback parcel weight, packaging and, if you ship from somewhere other than your shop address, your origin. Save and recalculate redoes the last 12 months with the new settings. New orders are estimated once a day.

Show it at checkout (optional)

Tick Show shoppers an “Estimated delivery footprint” line at checkout to show the same estimate in the order summary once the shopper has entered a delivery country. It is off until you turn it on, it is always worded as an estimate, and it is not shown for store pickup.

Pledges

A pledge is your own record of a commitment to offset or cut an amount of estimated emissions over a period, with the provider or programme you plan to use. BestWebby does not buy, sell or verify offsets, and nothing is purchased when you record or complete a pledge. Mark done records your own statement that you have done it; add a link to your certificate or receipt if you have one.
