Operator: Type a Command, and See What Needs You

Type an everyday task in your own words, check what it will do and confirm it, and read a briefing of what needs your attention today.

Overview

Insights → Operator has two parts:

  • A command bar. Type a task in plain words, such as "create a discount code SAVE15 for 15% off". BestWebby says what it understood, and nothing happens until you click Confirm & run.
  • A briefing. A list of what needs your attention, most urgent first, each with a link to the page where you deal with it.

Operator is part of the Scale plan and above.

Run a command

  1. Type the task in the box and click Ask (or press Enter).
  2. Read the line that appears under the box: it says exactly what will be done.
  3. Click Confirm & run to do it. To change your mind, type something else instead.

The command bar understands four tasks:

You type, for exampleWhat happens when you confirm
"Create a discount code SAVE15 for 15% off"Creates the code as a percentage discount, active straight away, with no end date and no usage limit. It is listed under Marketing → Discount codes (legacy). A code that already exists is not changed. Needs the owner, admin or manager role.
"Pause the Blue Mug" / "Publish the Blue Mug"Pausing makes the product a draft, so it leaves your store. Publishing puts it through the same listing check as publishing from the product page: it goes live, or is held for review and published once approved. The product name must match exactly (capital letters do not matter). Needs the owner, admin, manager or staff role.
"Take 20% off slow movers"Nothing is changed. You are pointed to Catalog → Pricing rules to set the discount and review the products first.
"Email carts abandoned in the last 24 hours"Nothing is sent. You are pointed to Orders → Abandoned carts to review the recipients first.

Anything else is answered with the reason it does not match one of these tasks. Each command that runs is recorded in the audit log.

Typing a command needs a role that can run at least one of them: the owner, admins, managers and staff. Each command you type uses one of your plan's daily automatic drafts, and a store can type up to 60 commands an hour.

The briefing

Under the command bar, Here's your store briefing lists:

  • products likely to run out soon, with their days of stock left, and products to reorder before they do;
  • repeat customers who have not ordered in 60 days;
  • an unusual number of orders today, up or down;
  • revenue this month against last month;
  • orders waiting for fulfilment or payment, open support tickets and abandoned carts.

Each item links to the page that deals with it, such as Open inventory or Open orders. The briefing only recommends: it changes nothing by itself. With nothing to report it says "All clear — nothing needs your attention right now." Reading it needs access to the dashboard home: the owner, admins, managers, accountants, viewers and sales managers.

Common questions

Can the Operator send emails or change many prices at once? No. Those two tasks always stop at a link, so you review them on their own page.

Why did "Publish" not make my product live? It was held for review, like any listing that needs a check. It is published once approved, and you are told why if it is not.

Can I undo a command? Pause a product you published, or switch off or delete a discount code under Marketing → Discount codes (legacy), the same way as for anything made by hand.
