Shop Sections: Curated Groupings for Your Storefront

Group products into named, ordered sections with their own URL — Sale, New in, Gifts under $50 — independently of the categories your catalogue is organised by, and switch a section on or off without touching the products in it.

Overview

Categories describe what a product is. Sections describe how you want to sell it this month. Shop sections let you build the second without disturbing the first.

  • Any grouping you like. A section holds whatever products you put in it. A product can sit in several sections at once, and in none of them.
  • Its own address. Each section has a slug, so it is a page you can link to from a campaign, a post or a printed sign.
  • Ordered the way you want. Sections carry a position, so you decide what a shopper meets first.
  • On or off. A section can be switched off and kept. Next season you switch it back on instead of rebuilding it.

Who can use it. There is no plan restriction; the storefront:design permission controls access — the same people who edit your storefront's appearance. Find it at Channels → Shop sections.

Step 1: Create a section

Go to Channels → Shop sections and click the add button:

FieldWhat it does
NameWhat shoppers see. "Gifts under $50" beats "Section 3".
DescriptionOptional line under the heading. Use it to say who the section is for.
URL slugThe address. Left blank, it is generated from the name. Keep it short and stable — a slug you change is a link that breaks.

Step 2: Put products in it, and order it

Add products to the section, then drag the sections into the order you want them to appear. The order is the merchandising decision: the first section is the one most shoppers will ever see.

Step 3: Switch it on when it is ready

A new section can be built quietly and switched on when the campaign starts. Switching one off hides the grouping; it never touches the products, their stock or their prices.

Working with the rest of the storefront

  • Appearance controls how the storefront looks; sections control what it leads with.
  • A promotion can be pointed at a section, so "20% off everything in Clearance" stays correct as you add and remove products from it.
  • The storefront generator will create sections for you when it builds a shop, and you can rename, reorder or delete them afterwards.

A note on slugs

A section's slug ends up in links, emails and sometimes print. Decide it once. If you must change one, expect the old address to stop working, and update anything that pointed at it.
