Surveys: Ask Your Customers for Feedback

Build a short survey, let shoppers answer it on your store, and read every answer in the dashboard. No scoring and no product suggestions: just what your customers said.

Overview

Marketing → Survey builds a short survey: choice questions and questions with a box to type in. Shoppers answer it on your storefront at /survey, and you read their answers under Responses. Unlike a quiz (see Quizzes), a survey suggests no products and keeps no score.

Surveys are part of the Growth plan and above. Creating, pausing and activating a survey needs the owner, admin, manager or staff role; deleting one needs the owner, admin or manager.

Create a survey

  1. Go to Marketing → Survey and click Create survey.
  2. Enter a Survey title, for example "How did we do?", and optionally a Description, shown above the first question.
  3. Two sample questions are filled in: a rating (Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor) and "What could we do better?". Change them to suit your shop.
  4. For each question, choose its type:
  5. Single — the shopper picks one option.
  6. Multiple — the shopper picks as many as apply.
  7. The third type gives the shopper a box to type an answer.
  8. Click Add option for another answer, and Add question for another question.
  9. Click Create survey.

The builder has no way to remove a question or an option, and a survey cannot be edited once it is created. Replace sample text you do not want rather than leaving it empty. To change a survey later, create a new one and pause or delete the old one.

Put the survey on your store

Your store shows one survey: the newest one that is Live, at /survey on every storefront (for example yourstore.com/survey). It is not linked anywhere by itself, so add a link in your menu or in an email. See Pages, menus and redirects.

  • Pause takes a survey off your store and stops it taking answers; Activate puts it back.
  • The bin deletes a survey and every answer it has collected.

While no survey is live, /survey says "There's no survey here right now."

What shoppers see

The shopper answers the questions and clicks Submit answers, then sees "Thank you! Your feedback helps us improve." with a link back to your products. The survey page is in English.

Answers are anonymous: no name or email address is recorded with them unless a question asks for one. One internet connection can send 10 sets of answers an hour.

Read the answers

Each survey shows its number of responses and the date it was created. The cards at the top count Total surveys, Live surveys and Total responses.

Click Responses on a survey to read its answers, newest first, each set with the date and time. Each answer is shown under the question it answers, in the survey's order. The window shows the 500 latest sets; when there are more, it says so at the top ("Showing the newest 500 of 742 responses").

Common questions

Can I have two surveys live at once? Only the newest live survey appears on your store. Pause the others.

Can I export the answers? Not yet. Read them under Responses.

Does a survey change anything about the customer? No. Unlike a quiz, a survey does not save answers on a customer's record.
