Supply Chain: Supplier Risk Scan and Customer Groups
Get a short written list of risks that could affect your active suppliers, each with an action to consider, and sort your customers into groups by how they buy.
Overview
Orders → Supply chain has two tools:
- Run risk scan reads your active suppliers and writes a short review of three to five risks that could affect them, each with how likely it is, how much it would hurt, and an action to consider.
- Segment customers sorts your customers into six groups by how often and how recently they have ordered.
Nothing on this page changes anything in your store. Every action it suggests is yours to take or ignore.
Supply chain is part of the Scale plan and above. The risk scan needs the permission to manage suppliers; grouping customers needs the customers permission.
Before you start: add your suppliers
The scan reads the suppliers marked active on Catalog → Suppliers (up to 200). It uses each supplier's name, country and lead time, so filling in the country and lead time makes the risks more specific. With no active suppliers, the page shows Nothing to scan yet with a link to add one. See Purchase orders and suppliers.
Run the risk scan
- Click Run risk scan.
- Read Overall risk (low, medium or high) and the one-line summary under it.
- Read each risk: its title and description, a chance badge and an impact badge, and Action:, the step it suggests.
Suppliers analysed lists exactly what the scan read.
What the scan is, and is not
The review is written automatically from your supplier list and general knowledge of the countries and kinds of goods involved. It does not read news feeds, shipping data, your purchase orders or your stock. Treat each risk as a prompt to check with your supplier, not as a report that something has happened.
- The same list of supplier names gets the same review for up to a week. Adding, removing or renaming a supplier gets a fresh one; changing only a country or a lead time does not.
- A store can run up to 30 scans an hour, and each scan counts toward your plan's daily limit for automatically written content.
Group your customers
Click Segment customers. Each customer goes into the first group that fits, checked in this order:
- VIP — three or more paid orders, and more than 100.00 spent in a single currency.
- Loyal — two or more paid orders.
- New — one paid order, and became a customer in the last 30 days.
- Lost — no paid order in the last 120 days.
- At Risk — a single paid order, 60 to 119 days ago.
- One-time — a single paid order in the last 60 days, from a customer who joined more than 30 days ago.
Customers who have never placed a paid order are in no group. Because the order matters, a customer with two orders is Loyal even if their last order was a year ago. Only paid orders count; cancelled and unpaid checkouts do not.
Click a group to see up to ten of its customers with what they have spent. The groups cover your 500 newest customers.
The groups are not saved. To email or target one, build a segment with the same rules under Customers → Segments. See Segments and flows.
Troubleshooting
- "Couldn't run the risk scan." Try again in a moment. The same message shows when your store has run 30 scans in the last hour or reached its daily limit; in that case try again later.
- "Couldn't segment your customers." Try again; if it persists, contact support.
