Bundles: A Discount for Buying Products Together
Group products into a bundle with a percentage or fixed discount that checkout takes off automatically when a shopper's cart holds the whole set.
Overview
A bundle is a set of products, each with a quantity, and a discount. When a shopper's cart holds every product in an active bundle, in at least its quantity, the cart and checkout take the bundle's discount off automatically. The shopper does not need a code.
Open it from Catalog → Bundles. Bundles are part of the Growth plan and above. Creating, editing, pausing and deleting a bundle needs the owner, admin or manager role.
Create a bundle
- Go to Catalog → Bundles and click Create bundle.
- Enter a Bundle name, for example "Starter Kit". Shoppers see it in their cart.
- Choose the Discount type: Percentage (%) or Fixed ($), and enter the Discount value.
- Under Search products, find each product and click it to add it. With a large catalogue, type at least three letters.
- Under Bundle items, set how many of each product make one set.
- Click Create bundle.
Each bundle shows as a card listing its products and their prices, the total at full price, the bundle price and the discount.
Fixed amounts are entered in dollars and cents. Type 5.00 for $5.00 off each set. After saving, check the discount on the bundle's card (for example "$5.00 off"): it is exactly what a shopper saves per set.
How the discount is worked out
- Every product must be in the cart. Sizes and colours count towards their product: a bundle of a T-shirt and a cap matches a medium T-shirt.
- Each complete set gets the discount. Two T-shirts and two caps are two sets. A percentage comes off the price of the items in the sets; a fixed amount comes off once per set.
- Extra items stay at full price. When the cart holds more of a product than the sets need, the cheapest units are used for the sets.
- The discount never exceeds what the items cost.
- An item counts towards one bundle only, so two bundles that share a product never discount the same item twice.
- A discount code applies after the bundle, to what is left.
- Left out: gift cards, items sold through Network Search, items at a price you agreed with that shopper, and flash-sale items whose sale does not combine with other discounts.
The cart shows the saving as "Bundle: " followed by the bundle's name, and checkout lists it as Bundle savings. Nothing on the product page announces a bundle, so tell shoppers about it in your product descriptions, a page or a campaign.
Change, pause or delete a bundle
- Edit opens the bundle to change its name, discount or products (up to 50 products).
- Pause stops the discount straight away; Activate brings it back.
- Delete removes the bundle for good.
Common questions
Do I need a discount code for a bundle? No. The saving is applied as soon as the cart holds the whole set.
Does a bundle work on every storefront? Yes. An active bundle applies on every storefront of your store, including checkout through shopping agents.
Can a shopper use a discount code as well? Yes. The bundle is taken off first, and the code applies to what remains.
Where are suggested bundles? Insights → Smart bundles suggests products that are often bought together. See Smart bundles and other suggestions. Its Create bundle button adds a suggestion to this page as an active percentage bundle, one of each product, so shoppers get the discount straight away. Check it here, and pause it if it is not what you want.
Is a new bundle active straight away? Yes. A bundle starts active when you create it; click Pause to hold it back.
