Gift Registry: Lists Friends and Family Can Buy From
Set up a gift registry for a customer's wedding, birthday or baby, share its link, and see what has been bought: gifts paid for at your checkout, and ones guests say they bought elsewhere.
Overview
A gift registry is a list of your products that someone hopes to receive for an event. You set it up for them in Customers → Gift registry, then they share its link, and guests buy the gifts on your storefront.
Gift registries are on the Scale plan and above and need the customers permission.
Create a registry
- Go to Customers → Gift registry and click New registry.
- Enter the owner's name and email, the event (birthday, wedding, baby or other) and, if you like, the event date.
- Click Create registry.
Then add the gifts: on the registry, click Add item, find the product by typing its name, set how many are wanted, and add it. Each item shows how many have been bought out of how many are wanted. You can remove an item, or delete the whole registry; deleting it stops its link working straight away.
Share the link
Copy link copies the registry's address on your store, /registry/ followed by its code, and the address is shown when you open the registry. Send it to the owner to pass on.
A registry only has a link once your store is live, because the page is on your store. Until then it shows No link until live instead of Copy link, and you can still set the registry up and add its gifts. See Going live.
What guests see
The link opens a page on your store with the owner's name, the event and each gift, with its price and how many are still needed. A gift that is complete shows as gifted. Guests do not need an account.
- Buy this gift puts the product in their cart, marked as a registry gift, and takes them to the cart. They check out like any other shopper. When the order is paid, the gift counts as bought, never more than the number wanted.
- Bought it elsewhere? is for a gift bought somewhere else. It counts one unit as bought and emails the owner, saying it is a guest's note and not an order. A guest can add their name for the owner to see. It can be used up to five times an hour from one internet connection.
Your list in the dashboard shows the same counts, and a gift shows as Fulfilled once all the units wanted are bought.
Good to know
- The registry page, its buttons and its messages are in English or French, following the language the shopper sees your store in; in any other language they are in English. The owner's name, the product names and any note are shown as you entered them.
- You set up every registry in the dashboard: shoppers cannot create one themselves on your store.
